The “Orquesta Sinfonica de Mineria” started the concert with an overture by Bizet.
Then Placido Domingo appeared and opened the conert with “Nemicio de la patria” from the opera Andrea Chenier.
Afterwards the argentinean soprano Virginia Tola appeared and interpreted together with Placido Domingo “Cherry Duett” from L’amico Fritz.
The night went on with interpretations of zarzuelas, tango and mexican contemporary songs, either by himself or with Tola.
When everybody thought the show was over suddenly the Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan appeared on stage and performed with Placido Domingo (now dressed as a “charro” – mexican cowboy).
At the end the entire “Auditorio Nacional” starting singing “Las manantias” (mexican “happy birthday song”) for Placido Domingo.
The kids were asleep when we arrived back home – great that the house is only 3km away from the “auditoria nacional”.
